Adventurous Elopement Ideas within an hour of Marquette MI

Updated: Feb 4, 2022

The beauty of an elopement is that you can do things however you want to celebrate your marriage! If you want to hike to the top of a mountain to say your vows, go for it! If you want to literally take the plunge into Lake Superior to celebrate, we'll capture it all! Here are some ideas of what to do if you are looking to add some adventure to your wedding day in the Marquette area. If you are eloping in the winter, we will have another blog for that coming soon!

Disclaimer: The safety of some of these ideas are dependent on good weather. Respect Lake Superior at all times and have a back up plan or back up date in the event of inclement weather.

Waterfall hop around Munising

Munising, MI has a plethora of waterfalls to choose from with varying degrees of hiking distances and difficulties. If you want to feel like a nymph or fairy on your wedding day surrounded by beautiful forests and flowing waterfalls, this is the perfect option. You can wade into the water at some of the falls or walk back behind them, but be sure to respect the signs and stay on the paths to keep everything pristine for the future. Here's a list of waterfalls in the area. (We will help our clients to plan out which ones and the best order to do them in.)

Take a Fall Chair Lift Ride up Marquette Mountain

This is a fun option for a fall elopement. You can take a ride up the chairlift to the top of Marquette Mountain Ski Resort and take in the views of the fall colors.

Rent a canoe or boat

Go for a paddle around the iconic Ore dock downtown. Growing up in Marquette and regularly seeing this piece of the area's history, it has always held a bit of mystery to me. It is not accessible by land, but on a calm day with the proper gear, you can safely paddle around it and see it up close. It would make an epic backdrop for an elopement on the water.

Hike Hogback Mountain

For the couple who wants to spend time on their day out in the woods hiking, this 2.8 mile out-and-back trail with a view is perfect. It has great views of the Lake and the foliage, plus it is less crowded than its counterpart, Sugarloaf Mountain. If you are looking for an epic backdrop to say your vows, the top of this mountain is perfect!

Take a Jump off of Black Rocks

Let us start by saying that we only advise this for strong swimmers in a light, single layer wedding dress, on a calm day. We love this as an option to say your vows on the rocks and celebrate by literally taking the plunge! It would be an adventurous way to kick off any marriage.

Let us know if you have any ideas to add to the list! If you're looking for someone to photograph your adventurous day, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We love to help people plan, execute and capture their U.P. elopements and all of the emotions and memories they hold.
